Man Arrested After a High-Speed Chase in Moorhead

Posted: Updated:

A late night reported armed robbery led to a high-speed chase around Moorhead.

Police say Brady Service Center, near the Burger King in Moorhead, said Raheem Michael Kemokai, 22, had walked into the service center demanding money.

They said he implied he had a handgun but didn't show one.

The clerk gave him a undisclosed amount of cash and he took off on foot. After leaving, police say he got in a car he had parked in the area.

As a K-9 unit tried to get to the scene the officer noticed a car wouldn't get over for them, and then took off.

Officers were able to confirm the description of the driver matched the suspect that had just robbed the service center.

Kemokai refused to stop and drove through north Moorhead before leaving the city and going east on County Road 18.  He turned south on County Road 9 and went back into Dilworth before going west on Hwy 10.

Police chased the car for about 20 minutes, at times the car reached speeds of close to 70 mph.

At some point, he hit a set of stop sticks at two different locations and three of the four tires went flat.

Around the 900 block of 4th street, near Concordia's campus, he left the car.

Officers did lose Kemokai for a time, but a K-9 was able to track him to a near-by garage.

He was arrested without further incident.

Kemokai is at the Clay County Jail where he is being held on charges of aggravated robbery, fleeing in a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property, which are all felonies.

He is also being charged with a number of misdemeanor traffic offenses.

No one was hurt and the only damage reported was from the car Kemokai drove.
