Cars Prowlers Target South Fargo Neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

In a matter of days, another Fargo neighborhood has fallen victim to car prowlers.
On Monday, we told you about two men arrested after breaking in to multiple cars in north Fargo. Now thieves have targeted a south Fargo community.

Sylvester Hemp and his girlfriend Erica Schultz always lock their car doors but even that didn't stop whoever from getting in.

"We always lock it and if we would have left it open we would have a window right now," says Schultz.

Police believe a half of dozen cars were broken into in this south Fargo neighborhood.
3 of the vehicles had their windows broken out including Schultz's.

"I was heartsick," says Schultz's.

But it's not the car damage you see here that's upsetting, it's what they took.

"My purse and wallet and a family heirloom," says Schultz.

About 30 minutes after I spoke with Schultz, police ended up finding her purse.

"My wallet is in here," says Schultz.

But the one thing that's irreplaceable is still gone.

"I'd give them this purse, my wallet, just to have my grandma's pearls back," says Schultz.

Now Erica and her boyfriend will spend the day calling their insurance company,
replacing at least the window and hoping police find the people who ended up taking so much.

Police say car prowling is a major crime that is continuing in the Fargo area.
They can't emphasize enough the importance of not just locking your car doors-- but taking out anything of value.
