Tenants Complain About Dangerous Living Conditions

Posted: Updated:

Some renters in a south Fargo apartment say their home is unlivable.  There is mold and walls are caving in.
Yet their landlord is doing nothing to fix it.

Desperate tenants decided to call our whistle blower hotline for help.

Living in filth, Roger Hellerud says he's can't take it anymore.

"I have my wife and 2 kids to worry about," says Hellerud.

Hellerud says walls are caving and a mysterious mold is growing inside.

But conditions are even worse in this apartment John Walker shows us.

"You see the live wire over here," says Walker.

Cabinets are falling off the wall and that mysterious mold is not just in one room, but all over the place.

Both men say they've called their landlord numerous times for help but there is never anything done.

"He told us if we put this on the news he'd kick us out. We had to call you guys," says Walker.

Even the city's building inspectors have this property under their radar calling this a place with extreme problems.

"The foundation is breaking," says Walker.

Walker says he doesn't have any other options and would just like
to see this mess get cleaned up.

We did speak with the landlord today and he tells us he has never received any complaints especially when it comes to mold.
He promises us that he'll be over there first thing Thursday cleaning things up.
If you are a tenant that is experiencing problem with your landlord, and it may be a situation where you think the building is not up to code, you can call the city's building inspection department and they will investigate your complaint.
