Last "Fighting Sioux" Letters for Sale Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - UND'S Ralph Engelstad Arena is putting all of its remaining "Home of the Fighting Sioux" letters from the exterior of the building up for sale.

The one-day sale is Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at the arena. All sales must be conducted in person.

The university has retired the controversial Fighting Sioux nickname. The arena earlier put one full set of "Home of the Fighting Sioux" letters up for sale through an online auction, with the proceeds going to offset the cost of removing six Fighting Sioux signs from the arena and the attached Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

The cost during Wednesday's sale is $250 per letter. Buying the entire word "Sioux" will cost $2,500. The letters are 1 ½ and 2 feet tall.
