West Fargo Students Get Hands-on at STEM Academy

Posted: Updated:

Students in West Fargo got a unique chance to get hands-on with science this summer through the Science Technology Engineering & Math (STEM) academy at West Fargo High School.

For the past three weeks students have participated in a variety of activities from launching their own weather balloon, to engineering a mock dam, even creating prosthetic limbs.

A camera on board their balloon shows views from high above North Dakota, even a view from 75,000 feet inside the Earth's stratosphere. The balloon was launched from Little Yellowstone Park outside of Valley City and was found just east of Lisbon, ND.  The balloon is estimated to have spent about two and a half hours in the air and traveled about 70 miles before popping.

If you want to see the weather balloon and other projects students have been working on, they are on display Thursday from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in Fargo. (1201 42 St. SW)
