Fire Evacuates South Pointe Apartments

Posted: Updated:

An early afternoon scare in South Fargo at the South Pointe Apartments after a small fire in the laundry room.

Crews responded to the building at 3200 22nd Street South, around 1:00 Monday afternoon for a report of smoke in the building. The first engine company on scene found a small fire in the laundry room behind a pair of dryers and put it out with a fire extinguisher.

The fire produced a large amount of smoke and heat melted a smoke detector. Working smoke detectors triggered the buildings fire alarm system and everyone was able to get out safely.

Damage was contained to the laundry room, the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fargo Fire Department.  The damage is estimated around $1,500.

The Fargo Fire Department would like to remind people to watch for dust buildup in their laundry area. Lint can accumulate quickly around the dryer and create a possible fire hazard.
