Local Farmers Market accepting Food Stamps

Posted: Updated:

Eating fresh.
While buying fruits and vegetables may make one feel better, making that purchase can be a real problem for lower income people.
A local farmers market says they have the answer that will allow anyone to eat healthy and fresh.

At Hildebrant's Farmers market in West Fargo, Trina Kalm not only let her customers pay in cash, but she also accepts food stamps.

"This is are third season," says Kalm.

Kalm says a few years ago customers asked her about accepting food stamps and she decided to get on board.

"It was a little process but nothing difficult," says Kalm.

But so far this season, not one person has made a purchase with their food stamps.

"It's kind of slow," says Kalm.

Kalm says she thinks the problem is because not everyone knows she accepts food stamps here that not only allows them to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, but plants as well.

"It's definitely a good thing to offer," says Kalm.

Because Kalm says she wants to offer fresh and healthy, to not just those paying with cash.

"I think they are happy when they get it."

The Farmers Market is open 7 days a week.
