Thunderstorm Rocks Thief River Falls

Posted: Updated:

They're still picking up the pieces in Thief River Falls, after a thunderstorm roared through town just after 6 p.m. Friday night.

A wind gauge at the airport outside of town showed a maximum gust of only 41-miles per hour. However, in the City the winds were strong enough to snap off Oak trees.

There are no reports of any injuries, but power outages are being reported from different parts of town.  Ben Frieson rode out the storm in his trailer, which was parked in the City Campground.

Ben Friesen, Manitoba Camper: "Trailer began to shake."

Reporter: "Did you think it was going over?"

Friesen: "No, I didn't think it was going over, but we looked across the street there… you could not see those buildings, when the storm hit."

Reporter: "Heavy rain with it?"

Friesen: "Heavy rain. Little bit of hail."

The damage appeared to be the result of straight line winds.
