A three-run ninth completed a late rally and helped push the Sioux City Explorers past the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 4-3, Monday at Newman Outdoor Field. The Explorers (23-26) began their comeback with one out in the ninth trailing 3-1.

Peter Barrows hit a double and scored the first run of the inning on a Luke Murton single. After a Sam Judah single put runners on the corners, Adrian Martinez hit the game-winning double down the left-field line – giving Sioux City the 4-3 lead. Fargo-Moorhead (29-21) starter Taylor Stanton had another strong outing in the no-decision.

Stanton pitched eight innings and allowed one run (none earned) on five scattered hits. He struck out eight batters and walked none – his second consecutive game he has given up zero walks.

Chase Johnson dropped to 1-1 after pitching for the ‘Hawks in the ninth. Dan Jurik pitched 6 2/3 innings for Sioux City and gave up three earned runs on seven hits, three walks, while striking out nine. Jon Plefka improved to 1-1 in 1 1/3 innings of relief and Chris Bodishbaugh earned his 12th save of the season.
