Posted: Updated:

Firefighters, including some from the united states, continue to battle flames and search for victims after a runaway train derailed.

It happened in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec. A railroad official said an engineer had parked the train outside of town, he wasn't in the locomotive when the 73 car train began to roll down the track.

All but one car was filled with oil that was being transported from North Dakotas Bakken oil region to a refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick.

At least 40 people are reported missing, the death total has been raised to 5.

"I can say that the bodies were transported to the forensics  in Montreal so that they can looked at. All during the night they had a lot of investigators here on the scene to meet with the people that might've seen anything that occurred during the fire yesterday morning." says LT. Michel Brunet with the Quebec Provincial Police.

More than 1,000 people have been evacuated.
