Campers Sent Home as the River Floods Lindenwood Park

Posted: Updated:

The flash flooding has damped the great outdoors for campers in Fargo. The Fargo Park District had to shut down the Lindenwood Campgrounds on Wednesday as the rapidly rising Red River started creeping toward some of the sites.

Executive Director for the Fargo Park District Roger Gress says the lower lying campgrounds in Lindenwood Park are impacted by the Red at 19 to 20 feet.

"We'll close down the Lindenwood Campgrounds. Of course, everything is full now between now and after the fourth of July, so we'll contact all those people and move those people out," Gress explains.

Gress estimates it could be weeks before the water recedes and they are able to cleanup and reopen some of sites. More than 100 campers could be impacted over the several week closure.

Other parks were also impacted from Tuesday night's rain, but some of the worst are Oak Grove, Mickelson, El Zagel and Edgewood parks.
