Fargo Leaders Approve In-Town Turkey Hunt

Posted: Updated:

The Fargo City Commission has approved a limited turkey bow-hunting season this fall to reduce the population of the troublesome birds.

Fargo's wildlife management program has allowed limited bow hunting of deer within city limits the past several years.

The City Commission on Monday approved adding wild turkeys, which have been a problem in residential neighborhoods in the northern part of the city.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department trapped 125 of the birds in Fargo last winter.

Biologist Doug Leier says a bow hunting season eventually will reduce the breeding population.

Participants in the city's wildlife management program must pass an archery safety course, obtain a permit from the city and obtain a special archery license and tag from Game and Fish.
