UPDATE: I-94 Near Casselton Re-Opened

Posted: Updated:

Update: The North Dakota Highway Patrol re-opened Interstate 94 near Casselton Friday morning, after overland flooding shut it down overnight.

State Highway 34 between Hazelton and Napoleon is also back opn.

Original Story: Interstate 94 closed at Casselton underpass, detour in place; ND Highway 34 between Hazelton and Napoleon closed.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and ND Highway Patrol have closed Interstate 94 eastbound and westbound lanes at the Casselton underpass (at mile marker 330-331) due to water over the roadway. A detour is in place. Also ND Highway 34 (at mile marker 11) between Hazelton and Napoleon due to water over the roadway. Motorists need to use alternate routes. Rain is forecasted for eastern North Dakota this evening and motorists are reminded that rapidly changing conditions can occur.
The following highways are affected by flood waters, but remain open to traffic, with traffic speeds reduced:

·       ND Highway 14, twelve miles north of Towner

·       US Highway 83, nine miles north of Max – Temporary grade raise in place with single lanes of traffic in both directions

·       ND 53, near Benedict

·       ND Highway 200, four miles west of Hurdsfield

·       ND Highway 200, four miles east of Hurdsfield - Temporary Grade raise in place with a single lane of traffic

Fluctuating water levels make it difficult to predict when and where water will go over a roadway or recede from the roadway. The NDDOT encourages motorists to check road conditions before traveling due to rapidly changing conditions. For updated road information, call 511 from any type of phone or go to the Travel Information Map on our website at www.dot.nd.gov.
