Touring through Minnesota is Gopher staff and coaches. Tuesday they made a stop in Moorhead to talk with maroon and gold supporters about the success of the athletic program, and about teams up-coming seasons.
"Our success as an athletic department has been a thrill to watch," says Norwood Teague the U of M athletic director, "even this year at this point we are 18th in the country in the learfield cup which is the ranking of all the sports put together, and that's 18th of about 350 schools in the country that are division one, so we're very proud of what we're doing."
The U of M is the only division one school in Minnesota. They have successful teams like women's hockey who have won back to back national championships. Of their 25 teams, 15 advanced onto NCAA sponsored post-season play.
Tuesday while talking with fans they said how happy they are that some supporters travel over 250 miles from Moorhead to Minneapolis to watch the Gophers.
"We have a great alumni followers, some even live in the twin cities, some live in St. Cloud or up here in Moorhead. They come down to games they follow us in an incredible way, and we're really proud to have them around, we want them around all the time." Teague says.
The group also traveled to St. Cloud Tuesday evening, Wednesday they will be in Duluth and Hibbing.
