Joint Chiefs Chairman to Visit Minot Air Force Base

Posted: Updated:

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is slated to visit the Minot Air Force Base on Monday.

Army Gen. Martin Dempsey's visit comes just days after an officer of the 91st Missile Wing's operations support squadron was ousted due to a "a loss of confidence."

The base is the command center for 150 Minuteman III missiles and is one of two B-52 bomber bases in the country.

The base has suffered a rash nuclear-related missteps since 2007 that has cost several officers their careers.

Most recently, the base earned the equivalent of a "D'' grade in a March test of its mastery of missile launch operations.

That led the Air Force to strip several officers of their authority to control and launch nuclear missiles.
