Lightning Strike Causes Tank Fire

Posted: Updated:

KEENE, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a lightning strike at a saltwater disposal facility in western North Dakota caused an explosion and a fire.  Fortunately, no one was hurt.
McKenzie County Emergency Manager Jerry Samuelson says lightning struck a tank owned by Murex Petroleum at about 8 a.m. on Friday.
Samuelson says the tank exploded and caused three other tanks to catch fire. The tanks contained water that comes to the surface with oil and gas.
Samuelson says firefighters waited two hours for the flames to subside before extinguishing the blaze.
