Man Leads Police on High Speed Chase from Detroit Lakes

Posted: Updated:

One man is in custody after a high speed chase late Tuesday morning from Detroit Lakes to the Waubun, Minnesota, area.

Just before 11:30 a.m. the Officers from the Detroit Lakes Police Department tried to arrest Anthony Lee Libby for two active felony warrants: Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and third degree controlled substance.  When the officers came up to Libby's vehicle he drove off and went north on Richwood Road (County Highway 21).

A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) was attempted early in the case but was not successful. The chase continued and exceeded speeds of 100 miles per hour. Spike strips were deployed but were not effective, so officers tried another PIT maneuver and that also didn't work.

The chase ended at a residence just north of Highway 113 about 10 miles east of Waubun, Minnesota. Libby got out of the vehicle in a yard and tried to run on foot, but he was taken into custody a short time later.

Three police cars have minor damage and there was also minor damage to Libby's vehicle. He is being held in the Becker County Jail for the active warrants and may be facing additional charges from the chase.
