Grand Forks Homes Evacuated In Overnight Standoff

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Forks SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were involved in a several hours long standoff Sunday night into Monday morning.

Police say it started about 8:30 Sunday night with a 911 call for medical help.

A person being treated for a heart attack then told police they had been in a confrontation with a suicidal woman with a gun and the gun had went off.

Police found the suspect back at her home on the 300 block of 1st Avenue south, but she refused to talk with officers or come outside.

With a report the woman had a gun, surrounding neighbors were evacuated from their homes or told to shelter in place.

Negotiators and SWAT team members arrested the woman about 5 Monday morning without incident.

The subject was taken to the hospital for evaluation.  Police are investigating the incident and criminal charges may be filed.
