Western ND Towns Set Rainfall Record

Posted: Updated:

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) - Some areas of western North Dakota received record amounts of rain in May.
Dickinson came within less than an inch of matching the May record of 7.11 inches set in 1906.
But Patrick Ayd of the National Weather Service in Bismarck says Hettinger, Bowman and Killdeer all set records for the month.
Bowman received 10.61 inches of rain for the month. Hettinger got 7.93 inches, and Killdeer got 9.15 inches.
Some people in Dickinson and other areas have had to deal with wet basements.
Arthur Ridel, who raises corn, wheat and sunflowers in Stark and Dunn counties, says the wet spring has slowed down planting but has replenished subsoil moisture. He says before the rain it was almost starting to get too dry.
