Hit and Run between Pickup and Buggy

Posted: Updated:

Authorities are looking for the driver of a pick up involved in a hit-and-run with a horse and buggy near Wadena, Minnesota.  A woman and two children were taken to the hospital after the crash.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff says it happened about one-half mile north of County Highway 50 along Highway 73 near Wadena.

Authorities say a horse and buggy was hit by a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup and the driver of the pick up took off.  The sheriff says now the suspect is looking at more severe charges than if they had just pulled over.

"There can be a number of reasons people don't do that maybe they've been drinking, they don't have a license." Sheriff Brian Schlueter says. "We don't know if any of that applies. Bottom line is it's bad enough to have the accident but not to stop and offer aid... There is no excuse for that."

The three people in the buggy were taken by ambulance to the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena with minor injuries.
