Nike Drops Livestrong Sponsorship Deal

Posted: Updated:

After nine years, Nike is ending its sponsorship deal with the Livestrong Foundation.

A statement issued from Livestrong said the announcement wasn't unexpected.
It comes months after cyclist Lance Armstrong admitted to using performance enhancing drugs during his career.
Nike has been Livestrong's largest corporate sponsor since 2004 and helped raise more than 100-million dollars for the charity.
Production of Livestrong apparel, footwear and other gear will be halted after the holiday 2013 line comes out.
The contract will terminate at the end of 2014 and will not be renewed, although, Nike says it will continue to support the foundation through direct funding.
Lance Armstrong founded the charity, best known for its signature yellow wristbands in 1997, following his bout with testicular cancer.
