Fargo Police Installing More Cameras

Posted: Updated:

Fargo Police are installing more surveillance cameras in the downtown area to help combat crime. The cameras will go up in the 400 block of Broadway and should be operational next week.

Since police installed several of the cameras last fall in the 600 block of NP Avenue, police say there has been a significant decrease in street level crimes like assaults, grafitti, vandalism and vehicle break-in's.
Police Chief Keith Ternes says he has no interest in mounting a camera on every street corner. He says police are only interested in placing cameras in areas where crime data suggest they could be useful.

Both the Downtown Community Partnership and the Downtown Neighborhood Association support the surveillance camera's.

A federal grant is covering the cost of the cameras.
