Semi Crashes into Ravine Along I-94

Posted: Updated:

Just before noon on Friday, the North Dakota State Patrol responded to a semi that crashed through the guardrails on Interstate-94 and rolled in a ravine.

Valley News Live photojournalist Nick Carlson is on scene and says the driver was stuck in the semi and had to be cut out of the truck. The driver was conscious when he was pulled out.

North Dakota State Patrol says the semi was filled with produce and a tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control.  The semi went off the road at mile maker 335 and ended up partially in the Swan Creek about 2 miles from Casselton, ND.

The Fargo Fire Department's regional hazmat team assisted emergency personnel at this truck accident. Diesel fuel from the crashed truck spilled into Swan Creek, which drains into the Maple River.

The regional hazardous materials team from the Fargo Fire Department used equipment to stop the flow of the diesel down river in an effort to reduce any environmental damage. It is estimated the truck was carrying about 150 gallons of diesel fuel. The amount that leaked into the river is unknown as of Friday evening.
