Local Authors Win National Attention

Posted: Updated:

A local artist's "uplifting" look at breast cancer is getting her national attention.

Meg Spielman-Peldo won gold in the "gift and specialty category" of the IPPY awards, from the Independent Publisher's Group.

Valley News Live has featured Spielman-Peldo's book, "No Lumps, Thank You", several times.

Sanford Health also published a special edition of the book with breast cancer's survivor's stories.

5300 books were nominated for an IPPY from 44 states and 8 different countries, which makes the award mean even more to Spielman-Peldo.

Meg is from Fargo, but the runner-up is also from the red river valley.

The silver winner in the category is from Fertile, Minnesota. Renee Rongen won for her book, "Fundamentally Female".

Spielman-Peldo says it proves just how talented the artist pool is in the valley, specifically the Fargo area. She is proud to be part of the community.

She credits her win to a book that makes people smile. She says you can't look at "No Lumps, Thank You" without giggling a little bit.
