Home Total Loss In Fire South of Fargo

Posted: Updated:

A home just south of Fargo was completely destroyed in a Tuesday night fire.

Fire crews were called to 404 River Drive South around 9:00 pm. The home was fully engulfed. Crews temporarily closed off roads in the area for safety.

Authorities tell us the couple inside the home had a fire going in the fireplace, and authorities say the fire got out of control and started the house on fire. The couple was able to get out of the building safely. Fire crews say they had to be careful because of roof and wall collapses. Also, the location made it difficult for them to find water.

Horace Fire Chief Ryan Hegel says, "It's all in the flood buyouts. There are no hydrants back here, so we're getting water from 64th avenue and fArgo here. It's our closest resource."

The owners say they've lived there 30 years and hope to rebuild, but are afraid they won't be able to because of flood restrictions.
