Hybrid Car Sales Rise with Gas Prices

Posted: Updated:

According to AAA.com on Monday, Minnesota now has the second highest gas prices in the country at $4.27, which is slightly less than Hawaii at $4.34.

In North Dakota, the gas prices are not far behind as they continue to rise. Some dealerships say they have the answer to ease the pain at the pump.

The trip to fill up Leonard Johnson's truck is one he wished he didn't have to take.

"It takes about $50," says Johnson.

For Tim Brandt at Gateway Hyundai, he says he knows the perfect solution.

"These are our hybrids," says Brandt.

The dealership sells not only these hybrid cars but electric ones as well.

"We see jumps in hybrids when the gas goes up," says Brandt.

And it's easy to see why.

"They get anywhere from 38 to 44 miles per gallon," says Brandt.

Electric cars have taken over many parts of the country with charging stations located in city lots and hospitals, but here in Fargo it seems yet to have taken off.

"We go in streaks," says Brandt.

For Johnson though, he says he's not sold on a hybrid yet  and will have to get use to the pain at the pump.

"I guess I will just have to suck it up," says Johnson.

If you're looking into a hybrid, the Hyundai Sonata will cost you anywhere from $26,000 to $32,000.
