787s Back in the Air

Posted: Updated:

United Airlines' 787s will be back in the air this morning.

The Boeing 787s were grounded by the federal government in January because of smoldering batteries that resulted in the emergency landing of one plane and a fire on another.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration approved Boeing's plans to improve its battery systems in April, paving the way for Boeing to install the approved modifications and allowing commercial flights and deliveries to resume.

United's first 787 flight on Monday is scheduled for 11 a.m. from Houston to Chicago. United says it is going to initially use 787s on domestic flights, but plans to restart international flights next month with new Denver-to-Tokyo service.
