Humidity Causes Problems For Marathon Runners

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of miles were put on Fargo city streets this weekend by runners that came across the country for the Fargo Marathon. And the course this year may have been more difficult than years past. That difficulty is all thanks to mother nature who had her own plans for marathon weekend.Runners say the rain got them wet and cold before the races even started, and some complained about rain drops falling in their eyes. Thankfully the skies cleared up, but then it turned to hot and humid. And that came with some consequences. Many runners didn't complete the course because their body couldn't handle the conditions.

Fargo Marathon Director Mark Knutson says, "Even before the sun came out, it's just a high level of humidity and it sneaks up on people. And you know a lot of people have been training for half marathons and full marathons all year, but it's been so cold and dry, and snowy, this is the first muggy hot day that we've had."
