Suspect in Moorhead Stabbing Arrested

A man on the run after an early morning stabbing last weekend was arrested Friday morning. About 9:15 a.m. Zakariya Abdikarim, 26 years old from Fargo, was taken into custody in Valley City, ND.

With assistance from the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, ND Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Valley City Police Department, and Barnes County Sheriff's Office personnel, a Moorhead Police Investigator learned Zakariya Abdikarim was in Valley City. 

Abdikarim was in possession of a stolen vehicle from Moorhead at the time of his arrest.  He is currently in the Barnes County Jail on the following charges:

  • Possession of stolen property
  • Clay County warrant for 1st and 2nd Degree Assault

A Long Form Complaint with the additional vehicle theft charges is pending from the Clay County Attorney's Office.    

Police say witnesses told them Abdikarim stabbed 25-year-old Michael Burciaga twice in the chest and once in the arm.  It happened just after 5:00 Saturday morning on the 500 block of 32nd Avenue South.

Burciaga was taken to Sanford Hospital for his injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.

    Beltrami Fire Department says part of a business is destroyed after an early morning fire. Firefighters say they were called out around 1:00 a.m. to a fire at the Beltrami Mall.  Crews say West Central
