Grass Fire Sparked South of Thompson

Posted: Updated:

It's another sign of how easy it is for our dry windy conditions to spark a fire. A grass fire broke out about one mile east of Highway 81 and three miles South of the Thompson exit on Interstate-29.

Firefighters were called around 1:00 Thursday afternoon, and able to put water on the fire and extinguish it rather quickly.

Crews across the valley remind people that until we get some rain, fires like these can get out of control in a moments notice.

"It doesn't take much, a little spark or something going on and it's so dry and the wind is up so it just takes it and it's hard to get in front of it sometimes," explains Dave Gilbert with the Thompson fire department.

A burn ban still remains in place in Grand Forks County along with several other counties across North Dakota.
