Posted: Updated:

Injured or sick and need to see the doctor? For the first time ever, the government is revealing how much hospitals charge. Taking a look at the numbers, is coming as a shock to some.

"That's crazy."

The numbers are what it will cost you for certain procedures at two different hospitals in Fargo.

"You could save up to two thousand dollars."

For example, if you head to Sanford Health with chest pain you're looking at paying $9,900. At Essentia Health, it's just $7,200.

If you're experiencing heart failure Essentia will leave you with a tab of close to $21,000 dollars while at Sanford they will charge $19,600.

"It kind of makes you wonder what's warrants one hospital to charge you so much more."

And while a $1,000 difference may shock some people, Sanford officials say that's nothing when you look at the cost of procedures around the country.

Sanford's president says in some cases a procedure could cost hundreds of thousand dollars more from one state to another.

"I'm not sure that's responsible," says Dennis Millirons, President of Sanford Hospital.

Millirons says it goes to show you that the Midwest continues to have high quality and low cost medical care.

"Our numbers seem to be fairly close together and that is great news for health care in the upper Midwest," says Millirons.

and hopes other hospitals across the country may take a look at what's going on up here.

"Look are our area compared to another area. We our the lowest in the country," says Millirons.
