Hwy 12 Closed after Semi and Train Collide

Posted: Updated:

A stretch of US highway 12 in Murdock, MN is set to stay closed after a semi and train collided.

It's closed between Murdock and DeGraff, traffic is being detoured around the scene.

Swift County Sheriff's Officials say the collision between the train engine and semi happened about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday west of Murdock.

The driver of the truck was airlifted to the hospital and remains stable but in critical condition. The semi was carrying anhydrous ammonia which can cause severe respiratory problems.

A small amount leaked out-- so students from a nearby school were evacuated as a precaution. Residents within a 2-mile radius were asked to stay away.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe says two crew members suffered non-life-threatening injuries. None of the cars of the train derailed.
