MSUM Goes into Lockdown on Report of Man With a Gun

Posted: Updated:

MSU-Moorhead went into lockdown after Moorhead police were checking on a call of a man believed to be carrying a gun.

Two people walking on campus early this morning called police after passing by a man they thought to be armed.

As police looked into the call, MSUM decided to put the campus into lockdown.

Sergeant Baetsch with MSUM security says the lockdown went into effect at 1:55 a.m. and was called off at 2:09 a.m. It lasted about 14 minutes.

On the universities twitter they posted: "Campus is in full lockdown. An armed suspect is in Hagen Hall. If you are on or near campus stay where you are and await further instruction."

Once police found the suspect it turned out to be the janitor coming to work.

Moorhead Police Sergeant Clint Stephenson says the janitor was carrying a bottle of cleaning fluid and his tool belt which the callers could have confused for being a weapon.

The lockdown was cleared by MSUM, they sent out this tweet:

"The all-clear has been given. Suspect was located and was unarmed."
