Fargo Marathon Countdown: It's a Miserable Time For Marathoners

Posted: Updated:

If you have friends or family running in the Fargo Marathon -- you might want to cut them a break right now.

Fargo Marathon Director Mark Knutson says the last few weeks leading up to race day "can be the most miserable time of your life."

Knutson says it can be a frustrating time, because of tapering. Tapering is when runners shorten their runs and reduce workouts to prepare for race day.

He says it can be frustrating mentally and physically.

Mark Knutson/Fargo Marathon Director: "You've been training hard and you're burning calories and eating like a pig. Then you slow down and your metabolism is like what the heck are you doing. You feel sluggish."

Knutson says it's important to maintain your diet and rest your body. He says bodies needs to recover from previous long training runs ahead of race day.
