Students Fight the River One Sandbag at a Time

Posted: Updated:

This assembly line is becoming a routine for some students in the area, like Brock Horner.

"This is my third time," says Horner, a senior at Davies High School.

When the river levels rise, it's usually the youngest in town, helping out with the fight.

"It's my second time doing this," says Connor King, a freshmen at Davies High School.

They've already filled the sandbags and now they are placing them.

They agree it's better to spend a day outside, than in the classroom.

"It feels good. It gives you a good workout," says King.

And every sand bag placed, they know is good for the community.

"We are just helping out," says Horner.

Over the next couple of hours, students will stack tens of thousands of sandbags but if the river decides to rise they'll stack even more.

"It makes you feel good. Everyone is out here," says Carly Bertsch, a senior at Davies High School.

And they say they will continue to be out here, lifting throwing and placing, whatever it takes to keep the area dry.
