Helping fight the flood, one sandwich at a time

Posted: Updated:

Barb and Paul Henke of Valley City made their way to Fargo and to once again hit the road.

The two are volunteers, with the American Red Cross.

"We'll be doing a fix feeding," says Paul Henke, a volunteer with the Red Cross.

They show up in their emergency response vehicle passing out meals to those fighting the flood.

"They are always really thankful," says Henke.

They have been passing out meals for years,

"It makes you feel good inside," says Henke.

To not only North Dakotans but to those in New York after Hurricane Sandy.

"A couple of years ago we went to Pennsylvania."

It's a job that has taken them to devastation, but can also be rewarding at the same time.

"We make the worst situation and try to make it a little better," says Henke.

And that's what they are doing here.

"We enjoy helping people," says Henke.

And those who they stop by to feed, enjoy volunteers like the Henke's

doing what they do.
