12 Fargo Firefighters on Standby to Help Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:

A dozen Fargo firefighters are on standby to help their counterparts in Sioux Falls who are overwhelmed with calls from rough weather conditions going on down there. They're struggling with an ice storm that was followed by a snow storm, and it's stretched the department to the limit.

Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says Fargo has a mutual aid agreement with Sioux Falls, where he spent 18 years before being hired in Fargo.

A top concern is the possibility of roof collapses. The Sioux Falls department responded to 300 fire, rescue and assistance calls and had three structure fires at one time.
