Police Investigating Largest Copper Theft Yet

Posted: Updated:

Police are investigating what's thought to be the largest wire theft ever seen in the Red River Valley. Thieves got away with more than 26,000 pounds of copper wire worth more than $112,000 dollars from Dakota Supply Company in Fargo over the weekend.

It's the latest in a rash of wire thefts in Fargo and Grand Forks, and police say it's the biggest by far. Dakota Supply Company is located on 3rd Avenue North in Fargo.

Police also are investigating what type of truck would be needed to transport nearly 13 tons of copper and are working with state and federal authorities to get the word out about the stolen metal.

Copper is a target for thieves because it can bring high prices when sold as scrap metal.
