Hardware Stores Stocking up on Flood Supplies

Posted: Updated:

With threat of high water in the valley area hardware stores are stocking up. Lowe's Home Improvement employees say homeowners should buy semi-automatic sump pumps that don't have to be constantly monitored.

Since those pumps can run for days, they also say you should buy a back-up. Another big seller are drain plugs that can inflate to provide a water tight seal. Workers say right now is the time to make these important purchases.

"Being prepared is 99% of the problem. If you're ready ahead of time, you're not going to have that problem later when the flood's here and now you're trying to get something and somebody's already bought it," explains Lowe's Associate Earl Behrens.

Homeowners who have sump pumps and generators should test them now to ensure they work properly when needed.
