Fargo Fire Destroys Old 8th Street Carriage House

Posted: Updated:

Fire overnight destroyed an old carriage house on Fargo's historic 8th Street South. It happened around 1 a.m. on Thursday at 423 South 8th Street. The carriage house had been renovated into a garage.

Assistant Fire Chief Leroy Skarloken says the large, two-stall, two-story structure was fully involved when fire units arrive on the scene, and the homeowner was moving vehicles that were parked in front of the garage away from the flames.

Skarloken says the fire was tough to extinguish because the building was full of lumber and other building materials. It took about an hour to get under control.

Investigators are still trying to determine a cause.
