Man Arrested with 7.5 Pounds of Pot on AMTRAK Train

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Office and the Grand Forks sector of the Border Patrol worked together to make a drug arrest in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 3 on an AMTRAK Train from Portland, Oregon, heading to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Sheriff's Office deployed a K9 unit to sniff for illicit drugs while the AMTRAK was stopped in Grand Forks. The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol received information of a suspicious person who boarded the train in Portland.

After the Sheriff's Office K9 alerted to two pieces of baggage in the passenger compartment of the train, consent to search was granted by the individual who claimed the baggage. The suspect, Andrew Sorenson, a 22-year-old from Portland, Oregon was arrested. Approximately 7 ½ lbs of hydroponic marijuana were seized worth approximately $44,000.00 street value.
