STEM Center Students Win App Challenge

Posted: Updated:

Some tech savvy students from the West Fargo STEM Center are the proud winners of the Verizon wireless Innovative App Challenge. Their recycle bin cell phone app was one of just 10 winning designs chosen out of 470 entries from across the country.

The application makes it easier to recycle by helping users find nearby recycling facilities in their communities, it saves the location and sends reminders so you remember to recycle. The stem center will receive a $10,000 dollar prize and the kids involved in creating the app won Samsung Galaxy tablets.

Joram Stith is one of the students involved in creating the app and says, "Being able to help our community for STEM skills that's great. And it's fun to do this and it helps students all across the country learn about STEM skills in a fun and competitive way."

A representative from MIT is coming to help finalize the app, and it will eventually be in the Apple Store and Android Marketplace.
