Whitney Johnson Selected Summit League Co-Pitcher of the Week

Fort Wayne's Dani Pugh was named The Summit League's Softball Player of the Week, while North Dakota State's Whitney Johnson and Omaha's Ashton Hughes were named Pitchers of the Week for their performances March 25-31. Johnson also earned CollegeSportsMadness.com Summit League Player of the Week honors.

PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
Whitney Johnson, North Dakota State

Johnson garners Pitcher of the Week honors for the second-straight week, the fourth time this season and the 10th time of her career, after recording all three wins of North Dakota State's series sweep of IUPUI.  She opened the series by striking out nine batters in an 8-0 five-inning victory, allowing just two hits and a walk.  In game two of the double header, she tossed another complete-game win fanning 11 hitters.  In the series finale, she threw her second two-hit shutout of the weekend with eight strikeouts and a walk.  For the week, Johnson went a perfect 3-0 with 28 strikeouts, while allowing 11 hits, five walks and two earned runs in 19 innings of work for a 0.74 ERA.  She held IUPUI to a .167 batting average for the series.

Ashton Hughes, Omaha
Sr. // RHP // Regina, Saskatchewan
Hughes earns her first career Pitcher of the Week after throwing a one-hit shutout in Omaha's series sweep of South Dakota State.  The right-handed hurler struck out a career-high seven batters and gave up just one walk. She retired the final 15 batters in order, which included five strikeouts.  On the week, Hughes went 1-0 with seven strikeouts, while yielding one hit and a walk with no earned runs for a 0.00 ERA in seven innings of work.  The Regina, Saskatchewan, native is 6-0 and leads the league with a 1.43 ERA on the season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Pugh collects her first career Player of the Week award after helping Fort Wayne sweep Western Illinois in their league series, 2-0.  In game one, the sophomore was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI and a run scored.  In game two, she bettered that performance, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with a home run, three RBI and a run scored.  Her two-run homer in the bottom of the first drove in the winning run.  On the week, Pugh hit .833 (5-for-6) with a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .857 on-base percentage.  She also added a homer, a double, seven RBI and two runs scored.
