North Dakota In A Deep Fog

Posted: Updated:

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - The National Weather Service says the combination of deep snowpack, strong sunlight and light winds has kept much of North Dakota in a thick fog.
Weather service meteorologist Ken Simosko says the hazy conditions are typical in the spring when there is snow on the ground, but the past week was especially tricky because of limited air movement.
The Jamestown Sun reports (http://bit.ly/ZNm0hb) that the foggy conditions led to a five-vehicle pileup north of Jamestown Friday that sent six people to the hospital. The accident was one of several fog-related crashes reported in North Dakota through the week.
Simosko says the state should get a break over the weekend because of gusts associated with a cold front, but light winds forecast for Monday through Wednesday may yield additional fog.
