Fire Hits Home of Glyndon's Fire Chief

Posted: Updated:

Glyndon's fire chief has spent years fighting fires and saving people's homes, but Thursday morning he was the one looking for help.

Blaring sirens rushed to this home off highway 9 in Glyndon around 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning after smoke was spotted in the basement.

"There was quite a bit of smoke," says Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist.

In the meantime, Glyndon's Fire Chief who is also a Fargo fire-fighter was on the way to another call when he realized.

"We use an electronic text system and I saw the call come in and my address was on there so I was a little concern," says Bob Cuchna, Glyndon's fire chief.

When Fire Chief Bob Cuchna arrived at his home, crews from Glyndon, Hawley, and Dilworth were already on scene.

When the fire started Bob's wife was in the home, along with two dogs and 18 of these chickens. Luckily, nobody was injured.

The Cuchna's say the damage was mainly contained to the basement.

Cuchna says he believes the fire could've been started by a faulty water heater, which stopped working earlier that morning.
