FM Diversion Project Set For Senate Vote This Spring

Posted: Updated:

North Dakota Senator John Hoeven says he expects a funding bill that includes a Red River flood diversion project to reach the Senate floor in April or May.

Hoeven was in Fargo Monday at a meeting of federal, state and local officials who are making plans to protect Fargo and Cass County against spring flooding along the Red River.

The White House has signed off on a 36-mile diversion channel that would move water around Fargo and Moorhead but the nearly $2 billion project needs approval from Congress.

Hoeven says he believes the project will pass the Senate. Then it will go to the House.

The National Weather Service is predicting the fourth major flood in five years for the Fargo-Moorhead area.
