Update - March 28

A 20-year-old North Dakota State University student appeared in court Thursday after police say she made a false sexual assault report late Sunday night.

Mary Gullickson pleaded guilty to her misdemeanor charges of providing false information to law enforcement and received a one-year suspended sentence along with a year of supervised probation.

Police say Gullickson was involved in a rape fantasy she set up with another man on Craigslist, and that her boyfriend forced to her to make the bogus claim after he found out.

Cass County prosecutors say Gullickson will also have to cover the costs of the rape investigation.

Update - March 26

Campus police say they arrested 20 year-old Mary Gullickson around 5 p.m. for making a false report to law enforcement.

They say Gullickson claimed she was the victim of what she called "an abduction and rape." The arrest happened on campus, and officers say Gullickson cooperated.

Giving a false report to law enforcement is a Class A misdemeanor carrying a $2,000 fine or a one-year prison term.

Lt. Gregory Stone, NDSU Police: "Investigation indicated there was not an abduction and a forced sexual assault did not occur as reported. Based on the information, we believe there is no specific threat to the campus or the surrounding community."

Police say they emailed NDSU students about the arrest around 6:30 p.m.

Original Story - March 25, 7:28 AM

NDSU Police sent a warning email to students late Sunday night after a report of a sexual assault in a campus parking lot.

The victim told investigators she was approached by a white man with a blue ski mask and was forced into a large passenger vehicle.

The suspect allegedly drove the victim to a different location, sexually assaulted her, and then returned her to the parking lot.

Police say the attack happened about 8:30 Sunday night in the campuses HR Lot.

No further description of the vehicle or the suspect is currently available and the University Police say their investigation is ongoing.

Officers have asked anyone with with information to please contact the University Police at 701-231-8998, the NDSU Police tip line at 701-526-6006, or by email to ndsu.police.safety@ndsu.edu
