ND Officials Seek Help In Documenting Eagle Nests

Posted: Updated:

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's Game and Fish Department is seeking the public's help in documenting bald eagle nests.
Conservation biologist Sandra Johnson says the agency is seeking the locations of nests with eagles present - not individual eagle sightings. She says March and April is the best time to spot an eagle nest because the birds are incubating eggs, and there are no leaves on trees to block the view.
Johnson says eagle nests stand out because of their enormous size and because they're in large trees. She says it's important not to disturb nests.
Eagle nests historically have been found along the Missouri River, but Johnson says recently they've been observed in more than half the counties in the state.
