Sheridon Dewald scored 9 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter as Napoleon came from behind then held off Beach 61-55 in the first round at the North Dakota girls Class B basketball tournament on Thursday.
Playing in its first state tournament since 1983, Napoleon (22-1) blew a 12-point lead and trailed 46-44 after three quarters. Beach outscored Napoleon 23-11 in the third quarter.
Mikayla Young's basket with 1:30 left gave the Imperials a 2-point lead. They never trailed again.
Kendra Weigel also scored 17 points and Marian Jangula added 13 points for the Imperials, who opened the year with a 60-55 win over Beach (19-6).
Cyndi Stedman led the Bucs with 22 points. She had three 3-pointers and six rebounds. Brooklyn Zachmann chipped in 14 points.
