UPDATE: All Safe After Minnesota School Lockdown

Posted: Updated:

A School secretary says all children and staff are safe after a "Code-Red Lockdown" at New Prague Middle School Wednesday morning.

New Prague Middle School executive assistant Lana Knoke tells The Associated Press that the lockdown that began Wednesday morning continues. She says police are still checking the school and students remain in locked classrooms.

An employee at the New Prague Area Schools district office tells The Associated Press there was a police-ordered lockdown just after 8:00 AM.

She said she didn't know what prompted the lockdown but said law enforcement officers were on campus Wednesday morning.

Scott County Sheriff Kevin Studnicka says they received a call of an "active shooter" and were working to clear the schools.

The New Prague High School was also in a lockdown according to school officials.

New Prague is about 45 miles southwest of Minneapolis. The middle school has about 875 students in grades 6-8.
